A Perfect Jean

The Jean that does Everything: DL1961

I have been putting off creating this post for a while, I even got the pics for this post done before the post was created, its not because I don’t love the jean (I absolutely love the jeans), it’s because I don’t want this review to sound like all the others. But as I decided to sit down and write it in the same jeans that I am reviewing, I immediately became aware of this jean being my everything jean. So let’s talk about the jean!

The Jean:

The jean that I will be reviewing this week is a women’s jean by DL1961– ‘Florence’ Instasculpt Skinny Jeans (Seymour).

Lets talk about the feel of the jean:

The jean is super light with a bit of stretch to it. The jean may be more suitable for the warmer seasons as it does have larger distressed holes on the leg.

How does it fit:

This is a skinny jean and it is just right (point, blank, period).  The jean is also true to size. It is a stretch skinny with a mid-rise. While it is a little long, I loved the look of the cuffed skinny with a red Chuck Taylor and super cute wedge (shown in the photos).

How did I wear it:

I was able to wear this jeans multiple ways. Currently, I am wearing them with a pair of open toe flat sandals. I also wore these jeans with light weight sneakers, chunky heels, skinny heels, and wedges. This jean can also be dressed up or dressed down, I wore this jean to the park with Carter and on a date with the hubby, and it worked both ways. The jeans never lost their fit throughout the day and began to gain their own personality after a few wears.

Where did I get them, and how much were they:

I purchased these jean from Nordstrom.com, without any help from a sales associate, of course.  The jean was 178.00 and is still available on Nordstrom’s website.

My overall thoughts on the jean:

This was my first time purchasing this brand  and I will definitely be back to purchase more from this brand. I really like this jean because as the title suggests, this jean is the jean for everything! I can literally go from play date to romantic date with this pant. As I tried to think of the up and downs, I can’t think of many downs for this jean. The one that I can pinpoint is that hole on the knee continued to expand after my first or second wear.  That is literally  it, however, it was expected because it is a hole on the knee. Because I do love this jean, I will definitely be shopping with DL1961 again.

Have you tried any of DL1961 fits if so what do you think?

Giving Denim A New Look

I went to my mom’s house to talk to one of my sisters when I saw my baby sister walk past me with the cutest pair of jeans on, and I immediately began to interrogate her. If you know me personally, you know that I can be quite annoying when I have questions about things because I need all the details. Immediately I told her that her jeans were super cute and asked her where she got them from she told me that they were from Gap but they didn’t come like that. “Ummm excuse me what do you mean they didn’t come like that?”  The jeans were two years old and slightly distressed when she purchased them and she wanted to give them a new look, and she did just that.

I like the jeans so much that I decided to interview her (when I say interview I mean annoy) on how she did this. So not only did she give me the details on the jeans but I will be posting a video as to how mine turned out when I took an old pair an gave them a new look, so stay tuned for that.

So under her instruction this is how you take a pair of jeans and distress them.

Before you start you will need:

  • a large knife ( she used my mom’s butcher knife, that of which I’m sure she would be dead if my mom knew), or exacto knife something sharp that will get the job done.
  • Tweezers
  • Cardboard, Magazine, something to prevent you from cutting into the other side of the jeans
  • Cheese grate (optional)
  • Oh and Jeans…duh

Let’s get started:

  • Start by laying the jeans straight on a flat surface in walking position and insert your cardboard or newspaper into the pants to prevent from cutting your surface or the other side of the jean.
  • Next, find what area you want the be the most distressed part of the jean and begin making larger holes with your knife.
  • Randomly add your smaller hole be sure not to go too out of control or too high with the hole if you want to keep your pockets. (You also don’t want your underwear showing, I mean unless you do, then go crazy)
  • Then go through with your tweezers and pluck some of your horizontal (blue thread on the blue denim) thread so that you have more of the white thread showing and the distress looks a bit more natural.
  • After you have tweezed your thread, you can go over small uncut parts of the jean with your cheese grate to loosen and better expose the fabric.
  • Throw the jeans in the washer and dryer (dryer only if you are running low on time)

-As far as drying this denim, you have already destroyed it, no harm in putting it in the dryer now

Side note- make sure you try on a pair of denim you can go with or without because the first time is the roughest, but it will only get easier. I will be dropping a video of me distressing my jeans shortly. I’m no diy-er but we will see how it goes. If you are not comfortable doing these yourself email Carrah at aperfectjean@gmail.com and she can give you a quote if you live locally or walk through on how to get t

Here are the before and after of the pair that Carrah did, along with a few more that she did for others:

Hudson-Blue Crush Jagger Pant

My first kid’s review… How exciting right?

I purchased a pair of Hudson jeans for my bambino and of course he couldn’t care less of how they fit but I like them and so I decided to do a review on the jean.

The Jean:

The jean that I will be reviewing this week is a toddler boy’s jean by Hudson. The name of the jean is Blue Crush Jagger Pant.

Lets talk about the feel of the jean:

The jean seems to be light weight, it is a denim that can be worn in all four seasons and can be worn multiple ways to match the season.

How does it fit:

Because this jean is for a four year old and he can tell me how the jean fits but is napping at at the time, I will give insight on the fit from my point of view. When I purchased the jean, I bought a larger size so that he could grow into it. The jean is meant to be a skinny jean and it actually fits perfect so the jean runs a bit smaller. I had to do some adjusting in the waste but the length of the pant fits well, and the slimness through the rest of the jean is perfect as well.

How did he wear it:

I was able to mix this jean with a variety styles for the kid. I was able to pair the jean with a nice thermal shirt from gap with a  pair of sneakers. I also did a nice button down with a tan loafer, and lastly I did a casual boot with a  sweater. This jean is also versatile while it cannot be dressed up much, it is very good for casual day or play dates.

Where did I get them, and how much were they:

I purchased these jean from HauteHook.com, which means I don’t have anyone to refer you to. The jean was $29.97. While this jean is no longer available on HauteLook, however, I did find one comparable on Hudson’s website.

My overall thoughts on the jean:

This was my first time purchasing this brand for my son and I think the jean is fairly durable and I would purchase them again if I had to. I really like this jean because it has given me an option for him outside of the Gap. Because I always purchase jeans for him from the Gap, I was a little hesitant when I  began to look elsewhere. I purchased these because I decided it wouldn’t be much of a loss if I hated them because they were $30ish. Because I do like these jeans, it gives me hope that I may have found another good affordable pair of jeans for my bambino.

Have you tried Hudson jeans for your kids? If so which style? Lastly, what denim do you put your kid in? Let me know I am looking for good brands for kids.

Kut From the Kloth Review

Hey guys,

Its been a while, but vacation was great!

So I’m back at it with another denim review and this one will definitely be way better than the last jean review I posted. Also, I am trying a new format for the jean review, I may switch it up agin for the next one but I wanted to see how this worked. Let me know if I missed anything in this review or if there are other question that I did not answer.

The Jean:

The jean that I will be reviewing this week comes from Kut from the Kloth. It is the “Catherine” boyfriend and simply put, I love them.

Lets talk about the feel of the jean:

So this jean is a bit heavier than the last pair of boyfriend jeans I bought (Seven for all Mankind- Josefine), but it was a sturdy heavy not a winter/fall heavy. While this jean is not a selvedge or raw denim the weight of the jean along with the look  and feel of it justifies why the company considers this jean premium denim.

How does it fit:

This jean is a mid-rise boyfriend jean, but it has somewhat of a feminine fit through the thigh. If you are one that likes your boyfriend a little looser, I suggest going a size up. As I just mentioned, the denim hugs (just a little) the butt and thigh and is pretty much boyfriend fit the rest of the jean. I wore mine cuffed at the bottom, and gave more of a cropped feel. Without the cuff, the jean stopped at the ankle and looked a little strange, but most boyfriend jeans do. The “Catherine” is true to size unless you like your boyfriend pant to be a bit baggy all the way through, then you will need a larger size. I think that this jean is legit for people of all sizes. I especially recommend this one for those that are curvier because it accentuates and restricts in the right places.

How did I wear it:

So I wore my jeans multiple times before writing this blog, and I wore them a few different ways, some of which are shown in the picture. I wore them with a classic Hush Puppy (except it was bright orange), a plain T-shirt and jacket. I also wore them with a sweater and button down combo with a  pair of nude heels. Lastly, I was able to pull of the mom on the go look with a bright nike air max white t shirt and cute accessories. This jean is uber versatile.

Where did I get them, and how much were they:

I got them from my fave store in the world: Nordstrom. I didn’t go to any one in particular, I cheated and ordered them online. This jean was not priced very high at all, it ended up being $79.00, which is really good for the quality of the jean.

My overall thoughts on the jean:

This was my first time purchasing this brand and I will definitely continue to buy from them. This jean is the ultimate mom jean, and not like the “flat back,” stone washed pair. This jean is for the mom on the go, the one that knows sometimes a sweat shirt or t-shirt will have to do in the morning when I run the kids to school. But the jean instantly converts to the fashionista jean once dressed up with the right top and shoes. The real beauty of this jeans is that it could double as a not mom jean, and could be worn by anyone. This brand also carries plus size denim and I like that as well, they have covered all the bases. There is literally a fit for everyone and everybody type.

If you try and buy or just try the “Catherine” boyfriend fit or any style by Kut from the Kloth, let me know what you think!

Oh, by the way, the shirt is from Express(exact shirt) the sandals (exact pair) are from Nordstrom, and the sneakers (similar) are from the Nike outlet.

Paige Denim Sale

Paige Denim has a VIP sale, you are able to get up to 50% off.  The sale ends soon ( no date given) so you should probably go shop now. Prices range from $79.00 to $129.00 for women, which is actually excellent for this brand. For men’s denim prices range from $89.00 to $104.00 which definitely is not bad for  mens’ jeans.

There are tons of selections for women, ranging from a flare to skinny. They also have more than just denim, you can get t-shirts and jackets to compliment the jeans that you are looking to purchase or already own.

For men, there are a few different color chinos in addition to the sale denim. No woman can resist a man in a good chino, those would be a great addition to anyone’s closet.

The only downside to this sale is that everything is final sale, so if you are not sure as to how Paige fits you, I honestly would not risk it. Go try some on first and then buy some. This is a deal that you cannot pass up if you do not already own a pair of Paige denim. You know I love mine, and as soon as I can, I will by another pair.

Here are some of the looks that are available:

Raw Cuts

I think a while back I did a post on the trends that you all should be on the look out for and while I am not a fan of “I told ya,”I really did. This Spring, tons of brands have been pushing their unfinished/raw looks out to us and I am completely obsessed with it.

This look puts a spin on the vintage Levi “Daisy Duke” short.  It actually puts me in the mind of the American Eagle denim shorts and skirts that my mom used to buy for me in junior high– the nostalgia of it all.

The raw cuts have been put on all fits but I love them on the skinny fits especially the cigarette skinny jean. The fringe at the bottom of each of these jeans make them perfect for spring and summer. Not to mention that the look is super chic and feminine. The skinny fit of the jean is not the only fit that this style comes in. The culottes, skirts, and high-low denim, and wide leg are all super dope. Because I am in the market for a nice wide leg denim, I will keep an eye on them and they may just be my next denim purchase so look out for that review.

I haven’t seen them worn much with sneakers and I don’t know that they should be. However, they are perfect with a closed or open toe heel and with a casual sandal. Certain fits of this style could even be done with a  bootie in the fall.

I have seen the trend popping up in brands like Joes Jeans, True Religion, DL1961, and Hudson. Being that the style is becoming more popular, I am sure that you will be able to find the style in your favorite brand soon if it is not already emerged.

The price of this type of jean will range, of course, depending on the brand that you are looking at. As a range I would expect to pay anywhere from $80.00 to $190.00.

Check out the styles below and let me know what you think. Let me know if you have a pair of these and if you do what you think of them.

Living Collective Boutique

Hey guys!

I went to an event that Alive Magazine hosted ( I wanted to blog about it, but finals were the worst!), the event had tons of cool people and vendors. One of the vendors I met was Katy and her boutique is Living Collective,  and I immediately became obsessed. Since this was an event put on by Alive Magazine, she did not have much there but I knew I was going to check her out at her shop later.

I went by her shop this past weekend and LOVED it! She has somewhat of a permanent pop up shop at the Vino Gallery,in the Central West End, and it is amazing. There is a wide variety of clothes but you know what I was most interested in… the denim of course. She had everything ranging from wide leg denim pant to denim sun hat (it sounds sketchy, but it is gorgeous, my phone died before I could take a picture in it).

As I mentioned, Living Collective also has other things outside of denim.  Tons of dresses, sweats, jackets, accessories, and the list goes on.  Many of the things that Katy carries in her boutique are from designers based outside of the US, so the likelihood of finding the same pieces in other boutiques is slim, as is the likelihood of seeing someone else in the same outfit.  Because most of the items she carries are designer, they tend to have a higher price tag, however, the quality is well worth the price.

With that, I did purchase a few things, and none of them were jeans. I will be going back to pick up a few pair once the spring items come in. Any who, these are the goodies that I picked up along with a few pics of the shop itself.

OHHHH, before the pics, did I fail to mention, this is attached to a wine bar?!?! Girl, what? Yes, God is real and he does answer prayers… wine and shopping in the same place! Now, here are the pics:

Be sure to check Living Collective out online at http://living-collective.com or in store at 4703 McPherson Ave St. Louis, Mo 63108

ASAP x Guess Review

You all know how excited about the ASAP x Guess line I was, so I made sure that I placed an order as soon as the line dropped. I ordered the overalls and was super excited about their arrival.  By no means am I an “overall wearer” but I decided that because I loved the color of the denim, the cut of the jean, and more than anything the vintage logo on the bib part of the overalls they would be mine. From these things alone, I was sold. This is what I was looking to see:

Screen Shot 2016-03-13 at 10.48.42 PMI purchased the jeans and received them a few days later and was super excited about them… that is, until I opened the freaking box. Each moment of opening the box was more exciting than the next I literally jumped for joy the entire time. I can remember looking at every part of the jean thinking that they were exactly what I imagined. And then it happened:

That’s right… absolutely nothing happened. This was a huge let down and these overalls are on their way back to Guess. I wanted Guess to win so badly but they did the complete opposite… This was a huge fail. This is also my first bad review and I am a little sad that it had to go down this way.

Liebster Award!

So this is definitely a milestone for me and I am so honored to be nominated! With that let me tell you what is happening:

This is something completely unrelated to denim… The Liebster Award… AHHHH!

I was nominated for a Liebster Award by the fabulous Roxy at Royalty in Reality. She is a lifestyle blogger that “lives like a princess… on a peasant’s budget!” She is a fashion forward blogger that gives advice on dating, shopping, and living life fashionably. She and her blog are so dope and I greatly appreciate this nomination from her! Make sure you check her out and follow!

Being that I am new to the blogging community, I was kind of out of loop as to what this award is so I did some research. This what I have come up with: The Liebster award is an award given to bloggers from their peers (other bloggers), which is why it is so special. The award only exists on the internet and it serves as a great networking tools with other bloggers and with those that may fit into a blog’s niche. Needless to say, this is a great honor for me and I am super excited about it, so again thank you Roxy!

The rules of the award are as follows: I am to acknowledge the person who nominated me… I need to post the award within a blog post, answer the questions that have been given to me by Roxy, and create my own set of questions. I will then select new bloggers and leave them with the questions that I have come up with.

So, lets get this party started, here are the questions that Roxy asked me along with my answers:

  • What’s your favorite television show?
    • My favorite TV show is definitely New Girl, I’m completely obsessed with it, even when the show is in the off season I watch it on Netflix in random order like show reruns (I’m a nerd).
  • Married, dating, or single?
    • I am married, and he is fine, and I am crazy about him!
  • Why did you start blogging?
    • I love writing, but never had anything to write about. I developed my obsession with denim very young but wasn’t able to indulge until I got to college and got a semi-big girl job. After I had my kid, somehow all of my denim disappeared so I began doing research on new denim brands, and saw there was a bit of a void in the area. So on a whim I decided that I would take a swing at it, and I never thought I would love it as much as I do, but I reeeeeaaaally like it.
  • Which is your favorite season? Why?
    • I have two. The first is fall because it is the perfect season for riding boots, skinny jeans, and monogram vest (I told you I was a nerd). The reason it is not solely my favorite is because fall and winter here in St Louis sometime blend together and the weather is gross. The second season is summer. I love the summer because everyone comes out of their cocoons and it is a great season for hanging out with family… Summer also makes way for great denim releases ;).
  • If you could move to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
    • I think it would be Africa, all the pictures that I have seen from my friends that live there or that are from are very gorgeous
  • If you could change one thing about the world, what would you change?
    • If I could change one thing about the world, it would be the senseless violence. I think everyone could agree that it is out of control.
  • What’s your biggest pet peeve?
    • My biggest pet peeve is hearing people chew anything but especially ice and chips I googled it and according to BuzzFeed I’m not alone, everyone hates it so chew quietly.
  • What’s your favorite physical feature on the opposite sex?
    • Hmmmm I love to look at my husband’s lips they are my fave!
  • What’s your favorite thing to cook?
    • Chicken Alfredo, I make the sauce from scratch (bomb).
  • If you had to give one piece of advice to someone in the “I think I want to start a blog” phase, what would it be?
    • Go for it, especially for a topic that you are passionate about! The only thing that can happen is that you dislike it and go back to your regularly scheduled program… your life.
  • Other than your own, what’s your favorite blog?
    • Of course I am obsessed with royalty in reality but I also have become completely enthralled in this blog: http://momstylelab.com

Now it is my turn! I would like to nominate the following new blogs for the Liebster Award:

  1. http://lovebypearl.com
  2. http://www.shebebutfierce.com
  3. http://mairanny.com
  4. https://sheismelrose.wordpress.com
  5. http://unodoliadventures.com
  6. http://lifeinspandex.com
  7. http://www.letsbewomen.com
  8. http://frorealdoe.com
  9. http://teaspoonofjasmin.com
  10. https://phruitfuldish.wordpress.com
  11. https://theorsonreport.wordpress.com

With that, here are the 11 questions that I pose to the aforementioned bloggers.

  1. Why did you start blogging?
  2. What do you do when you when you are not blogging?
  3. What is your favorite blog?
  4. What is your favorite book?
  5. What is your dream job?
  6. If your life were a movie what would it be and why
  7. What is your favorite dessert?
  8. What three beauty products can’t you live without?
  9. How do you handle a stressful day?
  10. Who are you inspired by?
  11. What advise would you give to someone interested in blogging?
